Meet Our Team – Shilpi Garg

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Immense?

I come from the country known for its rich culture, India, and I moved to the UK in 2017.

I graduated as an Information Technology Engineer. I started my career in 2010 as a Test professional with NIIT technology. As part of the professional journey, I mostly worked with travel/transport industries and mainly aviation. I have worked for clients like SITA and EasyJet and streamlined testing processes of their complex systems. I worked in several different roles ranging from Business Analyst, Product Owner, Test Analyst to Test Lead.

At Immense I am an Automation Engineer. My responsibilities here include automation testing of all the components, maintenance of existing framework and improvement in the testing process.

What is a typical day like for you at Immense?

At Immense, I believe the best part is there is no ‘Typical’ day. Every day here for me is full of opportunities to learn, to explore and to challenge myself. As part of the sprint, I spend a few minutes in stand-up where we plan our day. Throughout a day I am involved in different types of activities, ranging from creating a test plan, writing automation scripts to peer review and to demonstrating sprint work.

As they say ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. So Immense take this seriously, here we have a social hour, daily quiz and many channels to just discuss life. Isn’t itincredible?

How did you find out about Immense and become involved in the company?

I was looking for a job in Milton Keynes and Tom (aka Tommy Talent) connected with me over LinkedIn. After going through the hiring process I was successful and got an offer to join the Immense family. I found Immense’s innovative ideas, product and work culture very interesting and decide to be part of the ‘Be Immense’ team.

What’s the best part about working at Immense?

The one word answer is TEAM. It’s been only a few weeks since I joined but I already feel I know my team really well. Everyone here is so approachable. It feels like I am part of a big family where everyone takes cares of each other while working towards a common goal.

What would you say is the most challenging part of the job?

To understand the smart mobility domain and help improve customer experience by understanding their business need and expectation from our products.

What has been your biggest career achievement?

It is hard to name one. I have been awarded multiple times for my customer focused attitude, which I’m very proud of.

I also started a computer training centre in the rural area of India and that was challenging and make me feel I have achieved something by giving something back to society.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

Hmm… I wanted to be a Doctor. But I had to make the tough choice from getting a Scooty (my first love) for joining engineer college or to be a doctor one fine day and as you know my first love Scooty won.

What do you think the future of mobility looks like?

If I had to answer this 2 months ago then my answer would have been different.

But in this time of COVID-19 and promoted working from home, if WFH becomes the new normal around the world, I see a shift to better transport infrastructure needed around small cities and towns, while metropolitan cities stay less crowded. I think there will also be a need for better connectivity with different cities instead of just within the cities. I think now Mobility needs will shift towards tier-2 cities.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the industry?

Traffic, increasing travel time and pollution. All three are interconnected and are the major problem of the urban world. Shared rides and better public transport can help us to some extent and products like ‘Fleet management’ will help government and private bodies to understand the demand for public transport and infrastructure improvement opportunities.

When you’re not working, what are your hobbies and interests?

I love to explore new places and roam around the world (whenever my pocket allows). Following news and debates are also my area of interests.

If you were stuck on a desert island and could take three things with you what would they be?

Water, Phone and My loving husband (to take care of everything else for me ).
